What is the difference between the Canon CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK ink cartridges?

They are both black, but the CLI-8BK has never been used.





I own a Canon Ip4200 printer.What is the difference between the Canon CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK ink cartridges?
Canon 5 Black is pigment based and better for text.





Canon 8 black is dye based and better for graphics.





You will not use a lot of the number 8 unless you do some sort of printing with photos or graphics.





I have the MP830 and MP530, and I went through 3 of the 5 blacks before I replaced the 8 black.What is the difference between the Canon CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK ink cartridges?
the 8BK is for photo printing.
