What can be the cause of the disappearing ink in my Canon Pixma MP800?

This printer utilises 5 different ink cartridges: black for normal b%26amp;w prints and 4 CMYK colours. The problem is, the CMYK inks seems to be disappearing.

I will give an example of the problem in the most recent case.

The Cyan cartridge run empty and was replaced. Nothing in colour was printed from that time, only the b%26amp;w mode for the copier was used, as well as the most default settings for printing documents (just letters, frames and numbers, no colour).

After week or two, the software informs, that there is less Cyan, that one could expect: like 10% or 20% was used.

It was going on like that for some time now, the ink just keeps disappearing into the thin air.Original Canon cartridges are used, temperature of the room is 25-30 degrees (Celsius scale), humidity 54%.

The printer is otherwise working: no smudges, errors, misplaced colours. What can be the cause of the disappearing ink in my Canon Pixma MP800?
There are a few distinct situations that are probably contributing to the issue.

Every time you start up the printer, it runs a cleaning cycle which wastes a small amount of ink from each cartridge. It's a ';feature'; that helps prevent clogged print heads.

Even when printing in ';black and white';, the printer will mix colours to create muddy black, unless you specify ';use black ink only'; in the printing properties prior to printing your document.

Check your printer's advanced properties and set the printer to print all colours in black.

If you're in the US or elsewhere, you shouldn't have any trouble finding compatible cartridges at a fraction of the cost you're paying for OEM ink.

If all you print is office documents, I'd strongly recommend that you give these cartridges a shot.

In Canada? Check out the reasonably priced compatible canon ink cartridges at Inkjet Oasis.
