Canon iP1600 Ink Catridge Problem. I only put in the black cartridge, I don't have a color one, it still says

Insert the empty or old color catridge. Some of the printers need to install both the catridge then only it woks. So insert the catridge if it doesn't have ink.....
With Canon printers, you will need both cartridges installed. If you want to print black only, either change the settings in the printer preferences or get a laser printer.
