How do I refill Canon ink jet ix4000 printer cartridges?

cover the ink port with electrical tape. Make sure this is a snug seal or you will get ink everywhere.

drill a small hole over the empty portion of the ink tank (I like the tip of the push arrow for location)

Slowly inject 20-30 ml of ink for black, and 8-12 ml for each colour.

Seal the cartridge by covering the hole with a dab of hot glue.

Remove tape. give the cartridge a gentle squeeze over the sink to drain off excess ink. allow to settle for a few moments to ensure it is not leaking.

Install and run a print head cleaning.
