Has any one tried to put a non standard ink cartridge into a Canon MP510/530?

And if so how did you get on and is there any tricks to by pass the chip that is on the carteidge.Has any one tried to put a non standard ink cartridge into a Canon MP510/530?
You can override the ink level indicator chip by holding down your resume/reset button for 3-5 seconds. You will lose the luxury of having the printer tell you when your tanks are empty....but those particular tanks are clear. You can see the remaining ink by simply looking at the tanks.

As far as quality goes, stick to a reputable company with a money-back guarantee.Has any one tried to put a non standard ink cartridge into a Canon MP510/530?
I have a MP170 which takes the same cartridge.

You can send the cartridges away and have them refilled which does save some money, but when I bought a non standard there were two problems. First was that without the chip the printer kept saying that it could not recognise the ink levels. Therefore it did print but didn't know when it was running out.

The second problem was that the print quality was nowhere near as good as with the genuine Canon inks.

So basically, I would spend the extra and stick to the originals.

Hope that helped
