How do I clean my ink absorber from my Canon i350 printer, which says to be almost full?

Is there a (safe) way of cleaning it without damaging the printer? How do I clean my ink absorber from my Canon i350 printer, which says to be almost full?
I have an Epson that will eventually suffer the same problem. It is the pad that holds the ink from doing a cleaning cycle. The vendor made an arbitrary rule that says after if is full buy a new printer.

Here is a link to a site that tells how to fix it and reset the printer instead of throwing it away http://www.polyphoto.com/tutorials/Print鈥?/a>How do I clean my ink absorber from my Canon i350 printer, which says to be almost full?
theres really nothing you can do about that try and buy a new one
